Crawford Temple from Professional Passport and Dave Chaplin from IR35 Shield chat about the rules of expenses, and what contractors can claim if they’re working via an umbrella company and are under Supervision, Direction or Control.
We talk about the expenses contractors can claim if they are working via an umbrella company, with reference to the rules around supervision, direction and control. Claims cannot be made for commuting from home to work, but can be made for travel from site-to-site - the multi-site worker.
In most cases there are hardly any expenses that can be claimed via the umbrella company, other than mileage. Any other allowable expenses need to be claimed through the self-assessment tax return of the worker.
